Anti-Semitism and the German Secondary Schools
A Translation from the German.
[excerpt from pamphlet, pages 3-5]
Foreward by L. G. Montefiore
This translation of an article in a prominent Nazi monthly, “Der Weltkampf,” describes conditions now existing in German secondary schools. The auther, Dr. Walter Scharrer, advocates the complete exclusion of Jewish pupils on the ground that their presence handicaps the free development of anti-Semitic teaching which, in his opinion, should colour instruction in all subjects included in the school curriculum. He also discusses the proper treatment of those Jewish and semi-Jewish pupils who are still legally permitted to attend German secondary schools. So far as the statistics quoted by Dr. Scharrer are concerned, it should be mentioned they are taken from publications issued under the auspices of the German Government in furtherance of its anti-Jewish campaign. In view of the persistent allegations that the German Jews failed in their duty to their country during the War, the figures he quotes of the number of Jewish children whose parents fought in the front line trenches are rather remarkable, as is also his attack on those teachers sufficiently retrograde and old-fashioned to retain bygone prejudices in favour of humane and fair treatment even for children of Jewish descent.
JEWISH OPPOSITION AND THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS
By Dr. Walter Scharrer
No race on earth understands as well as the Jews how to wriggle out of hard work and yet by devious ways to get into higher and well-paid posts. Whoever does not believe this would do well to read the excellent statistics provided for us by the Institute for the study of the Jewish Question. For example, before the Revolution, 42 per cent of all the Jews living in Prussia were collected in Berlin. Their economic position was not unfavourable. Forty-eight percent of lawyers, 56 percent of notaries, 68 percents of doctors in social service organizations were Jews. On the Stock Exchange, there were only 274 Aryans as against 1,200 Jewish members. The banks and important business firms, as well as the Press, Art and Science were inundated by Jews. In agriculture there were only 1.8 percent Jews and hardly any in industry. Such examples must overwhelm even the simplest citizen, who longs to take the whole world into his affectionate embrace....
