Jump Rope
This jump rope belonged to Leonore Freiman (née Ehrlich). She was a teenage student at the Michelbeuern Fashion School in Vienna in the 1930s. A month after Nazi Germany took control of Austria (the Anschluss), Leonore was dismissed from the school because she was Jewish. In March 1939, Leonore escaped the Nazi regime by serving as a chaperone for Jewish children on the first Kindertransport rescue mission. Between 1938 and 1940, Kindertransport brought approximately 10,000 Jewish children from Nazi Europe to safety in Britain. Parents were not allowed to accompany their children on the Kindertransport.
Donated to the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre by Debby Freiman. 2007.005.001
