Honour Cross
Oskar Berger was awarded this medal for his service to Germany in the First World War. He was a German-Jewish soldier who served as a medical officer. Oskar was shot in the leg while he was trying to save another soldier’s life.
The Honour Cross medal was awarded for distinguished acts by soldiers of Imperial Germany. An estimated 100,000 Jewish Germans fought for Germany in the First World War. Many saw it as an opportunity to prove their loyalty to their country.
