Prayer Book Fragment

Eveline Berger was 10 years old during the Kristallnacht pogrom in November 1938. She lived with her Jewish family in the city of Berlin. On the morning after Kristallnacht, Eveline found this burned fragment from a Jewish prayer book buried in the rubble of the Fasanenstrasse Synagogue. It was one of hundreds of synagogues destroyed during the Kristallnacht pogrom. The Nazis ordered firefighters not to stop Jewish buildings from burning.
