Kindergarten Photo
Friedke Kahn sits in the front row, the first child on the left, in this photograph of her kindergarten class from 1933.
In September 1941, an Einsatzgruppen unit and local Lithuania collaborators rounded up the Jews of Eišiškės and shot them to death. Most of Friedke's classmates did not survive the massacre. Friedke survived this mass killing. However, in 1943 she was brutally murdered by the antisemitic Polish Home Army.
Loaned to the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre by the family of Leon Kahn (of blessed memory).
