Reverend Roelof Groeneboer was a minister in the Christian Reformed Church in the Netherlands. During the war, Roelof travelled to various parishes by bicycle. He was also an active member of the Dutch resistance. He helped hide Jews, produced false food ration cards and distributed food. He received this Hanukkah lamp as a gift of gratitude from two Jewish girls he helped hide. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1955 and served congregations in Ontario and British Columbia.
