In 1940, the British authorities interned approximately 1,000 teenagers whom they classified as “enemy aliens.” Yet many of these same youths had been rescued by the British through the Kindertransport Rescue. This included Bert Knoll, who arrived in England on the last transport. Bert was arrested, interned on the Isle of Man and then deported to Canada. He remained interned in several locations from 1940 to 1944. The fourth page of this document identifies Bert Knoll as a “Refugee from Nazi Oppression.”
