Bert Knoll was 15 years old when Nazi Germany annexed Austria. Due to Nazi racial laws, Bert was expelled from his high school before he could graduate. He began working for his family’s business as a delivery boy. Bert made several attempts to escape Nazi-occupied Austria before he was able to leave in 1939. He travelled on the last Kindertransport from Vienna, Austria, to England.
