Peterswald Kinderheim was a Jewish orphanage established after the Holocaust. The Kinderheim (Children’s Home) was called a “home” rather than an orphanage in an effort to make it seem more welcoming. In 1946, around 100 Jewish orphans lived at the Kinderheim. The children had survived the Holocaust either in hiding or in concentration camps. Most of the children were from Poland, though some were from other places such as Romania and Lithuania. Very few of the children were ever reunited with their families.
